A brief history of Speak Media

The lowdown

Speak Media was founded in 2011 by a journalist, an art director, and a magazine publisher with a determination to bring newsstand editorial values to the burgeoning content marketing industry.

Things got off to the perfect start with a commission to create a new magazine for Coutts, the private bank.

Since then, we’ve gone from strength-to-strength – winning industry awards, developing e-commerce expertise, establishing our ‘Content Brand’ manifesto, setting up a content studio in Spitalfields, east London and – best of all – developing a lean, full-service creative content team that works with progressive marketers and comms leaders at some of the world’s best-known brands.

More recently, we’ve launched our dedicated Content Works service, an ‘always on’, multi-channel newsroom staffed by highly experienced brand journalists and creatives, with Barclays as a founding client. This project helped Barclays win 'Best Corporate Website' at the 2017 Digital Impact Awards – showing once again the power of an effective content strategy and a committed, collaborative agency partner.

We are members of the Content Marketing Association.

Our core team consists of writers, designers, UXers and content strategists, photographers and video producers.

We work collaboratively, recruiting handpicked talent from our creative network as needed for projects and campaigns, while building bespoke 'always on' newsrooms for Content Works clients.

Between us, we have decades of experience producing great content and engagement strategies for brands as diverse as: Orange, the Guardian, English Heritage, Volkswagen, Toyota, Audi, GlaxoSmithKline, P&G, Natwest, Hiscox, RBS, English Heritage, Wembley Stadium and the Department for Education.

George Theohari, Editorial director
A journalist turned copywriter and content strategist, George brings a wealth of editorial experience to brand communications, helping marketers deliver content and copy that resonates with their audiences.

Paul Williams, Client services director
A creative-minded comms strategist who’s helped some of the world’s biggest brands, from Audi to Coca Cola, Paul looks after client relationships and heads up strategy and planning at Speak.
