Monday Funday: you know when you’ve been Tango’d

How do you approach a serious subject in a light-hearted, comical way that both gets your message across and makes your audience laugh? Brands can end up walking a tightrope between the absolutely hilarious and the darn-right offensive.

The New Zealand AIDS Foundation has executed this knee-slapper with masterful precision – featuring a taxi driver who got far more than he bargained for and a particularly crass use of oven mitts.

‘Straight in the tank’

In the midst of the World Cup you would be forgiven for thinking that anything else is going on in the world. From Kim Jong Un to Donald Trump, it seems like everyone has decided to take a step back, crack open a beer and enjoy the footy.

However Paddy Power has reminded us, in the only way it knows how, that Royal Ascot is kicking off tomorrow.

In a social spot that is doing the rounds on the Irish bookmakers Twitter page we are introduced to The Drunk Tank – a drunkard collecting vehicle that zips around the festival locking up “banjaxed” and “totally lacquered” race-goers.

We are going all the way back to 1991 – pre Monday Funday, can you believe it!? – with this classic from orange fizzy supplier Tango. In this 40-second clip a young man is minding his own business before being assaulted by an overweight, Spiderman-looking figure. The spot then reveals the legendary line: “You know when you’ve been Tango’d”.
