Spoken Word: April
Each month, the storytellers at Speak scope out the hottest spoken and written word events in and around Spitalfields, our east London neighbourhood. This April, we’ve got a barbershop-based spoken word event and an international storytelling competition that will leave you bamboozled.
What better place to experience the pleasure of poetry than nestled in one of east London’s favourite bookshops? Focussing less on captivating the audience, and more on discovering a myriad of new poetic styles, this is one for the die-hard rhymsters and costs £10.
This spoken word night, which promises an evening of “conscious expression and conscious music”, takes place at a hipster barbershop way down in Walthamstow. A small donation buys you a wave of words but not a fresh new haircut.
A brand new poetry night – with an unspecified twist – ensures you can fill both your mind with verse-making verbiage and your tum with the delicious dainties on offer at the venue. £5 for those wanting to profess poetry, £8 for spectators.
It’s an international affair. The Moth StorySlam is an open mic storytelling competitions held in 26 cities worldwide. Join your fellow bards at Bethnal Green-based cultural hub Rich Mix armed with a five-minute TRUE story based on the theme: ‘bamboozled’ for £13.
This stand-out female only spoken word night launches for the first time with a diverse line up and an evening of female connectivity on the cards for a minimal £5.
